I am not your typical dedicated dog lover, but I think this story is still important to tell.
We had dogs as kids and they followed us everywhere. We played there more than anywhere else. We were playing one day the dogs were barking in the woods next to the lake. They were after ground squirrels among the tree roots.
When we started to go home we called the dogs but they didn't come as usual which was very strange as they were very dedicated to following us everywhere. I called the dogs later and our big brown mixed ( BROWNY ), was slobbering at the mouth and He was making funny noises.
We were scared because it looked a lot like the symptoms of rabies. He kept whining and barking and scratching on the front door. I went out to sit to check on him and there he was right in my face,growling and slobbering and twisting his head like he was Crazy. I thought I saw something in his mouth so I looked closer and there it was. A root stuck in the roof of his mouth. I got a pair of pliers and reached in and pulled it out. He went crazy for sure then, rearing up on me licking barking. He thanked me profusely me for my good deed.
He had bitten a root and it lodged in the roof of his mouth so by removing it, I had a friend for life. Strange but true, and we were all happy that it wasn't rabies.
