The BEST treat I've found for my dogs is CARROTS!!!  My dogs (Casey, a Maltese, and Maddie, an English Cocker) would kill for a carrot!  I buy the large bags of baby carrots (3 or 4 at a time) so that I never run out.  Casey and Maddie think that when I go into my kitchen, my only purpose in that room is to give them carrots!

Doctors Foster and Smith state older animals tend to absorb fewer vitamins, minerals, and electrolytes through the intestinal tract, and lose more of them through the kidneys and urinary tract. Also, some older animals eat less (due to conditions such as oral disease) and may not receive their daily needs of vitamins and minerals. Some evidence in other species suggest that antioxidants such as vitamins A, E, and C (beta-carotene) may play a role in protecting against some normal aging processes.

Carrots are high in vitamins A, E and C. So, next time you go to give your dog(s) a treat, reach in the refrigerator and give them a healthy carrot!
